    ***** 5 STAR REVIEW

“Peaceful location, friendly host. The main thing that sets Sidsmums apart from other budget accommodation is the helpfulness of the host, Tracy. She collected us from the airport and gave lots of great advice about things to do/see, and even rescued us from Carcassonne in pouring rain for a reasonable fare (the last bus back to Preixan drove straight past us because we were at the wrong bus stop! Tip - ask in tourist office for info about where to catch the bus back. There didn't seem to be a signed bus stand).

Preixan is very quiet , as with most pretty French villages. Sadly the boulangerie has now closed down (mini supermarket has taken over). Without a car, it did feel a bit isolated from Carcassonne. Taxis sounded a bit pricey to us. Our Sat morning bus didn't arrive, but Tracy was driving to town anyway so kindly gave us a lift.

However I really enjoyed the tranquility of the scenic rural location - more relaxing than touristy Carcassonne Cite. We did a great bike ride to St Hilaire Abbey and back. The brief dual carriageway section was less fun, but the rest is mostly quiet roads with picturesque vineyards.

The lovely log burner and DVD's in the evening made it very cosy and pleasant with a glass of wine, chatting with the (few) other guests. Not sure how busy it gets in summer. It was quiet for our stay late Sept, so plenty of space in the communal area.

Staying in the main building, the twin room was simple but comfortable. Bathroom quite basic but clean.

Pizza van is worth the long-ish walk for takeaway dinner.

Carcassonne is nice to explore for a day, our 2.5 days was plenty.... We had a good value lunch at l'Artichaut in Place Carnot. " UK
